My Hex Star Sizzix Die! May 24 2016, 1 Comment

My Videos are back!  Subscribe to my YOUTUBE channel so you don't miss the "up close and personals!"   ;-)

Hex Star!  I LOVE THIS DIE... Well, actually I love them all. I'm making several king size quilts for myself from these dies, and even another geese crossing version that I started today. It goes so quick with my Sizzix!!

Three machines sizes. (Think, Small, Medium and Large)

Big Shot, ( the small machines, take the 6" dies...

Big Shot Plus, ( medium machine) uses The small 6" dies,AND the 9" dies...

Big Shot Plus,(the LARGE) can use ALL the dies, 6", 9", and 12" dies...

These sizes are the WIDTH that can go through the machine.. It depends on how you want to use them... TO carry with you on retreats? Small one...

Medium for more flexibility uses two die sizes, can still carry it with you...

And last, the Big Shot PRO- A stay in one place machine, I'll do a video soon on them.

Above on the left is the BIG SHOT PLUS, all three dies shown above A 9" platform die, under my hand, and two 6" platforms dies beside that.

on my Right, is the Big Shot, (otherwise known as a fabi)

Uses only 6" platform dies... that 6" is what fits through the opening the machine.

All my Sizzix dies are available HERE.

OK, My HEX STAR die. You can use this die in a couple different ways, I like to design dies that give you a multitude of options!  Loving HEXIES? The star without the half rectangles, gives you just a nice big pieced hex. I have a video on making all the die shapes at my website.

This red and brown version is going to be king size. I already raided my friends stashes for more Reds and browns, as I depleted most of mine!  My bed.  Can't wait.  Must get busy!

But you can also square out the Hexagon to make it a block, like this one below! Isn't it so fun? I even fussy cut on my die!  Fabulous!

At the last minute I made up a small wall hanging, that I can hang in my kitchen... using my Yellow Leo Diamond print from Mostly Manorfor the background. Next I  dug out some favorite golds, and bright yellows to make this version. Using the half rectangle, finishes my hexes so they have a straight edge...

So much fun!

One more die to go!

All my Sizzix dies are available HERE.

My Signature Block quilt grows! May 24 2016, 0 Comments

I've been obsessed lately with big quilts, with small pieces… Last September, I started gathering signature blocks from any quilters I know… And will continue to ask for them when I teach or lecture etc…
So now I realized, I missed a bunch of people this past year that I'd like to have in my quilt...
Have you ever taken  class with me?
...or my come to my lecture?
or met me somewhere along the way,
or not even met me but want to contribute a tiny block?
ha ha!

I'd love to get a signature block from you, for a quilt I'm making…
Pass it on, ask your quilter pals...
 cut  TWO - 1.5" X 3.5" strips
 of
A SOLID COLOR

NO PRINTS OR HAND DYES PLEASE!!!!

Please make it this size, or I can use your block.

cut ONE - 1.5" X 3.5" strip
of WHITE for signature

Sew them together, press seams open
….and sign, (fabric pen) Pigma Microns are great!
Keeping your signature at least a 1/4"
 in on the sides,
so it doesn't get cut off in the seam allowance…

**I am trimming these blocks down smaller, you don't have to worry about doing that.

THANK YOU!!!
If I came to your guild, can you ask your peeps and gather some blocks for me from the  members?
There is no deadline…. this quilt will just grow and grow…
Putting all my happy memories all in one place. :-)

NOTE:
I want to be able to use all the blocks coming in, so if your block is TOO SMALL OR TOO LARGE, I can't make it fit in the quilt…

 PLEASE NO HAND DYES!!!
If I don't know where they are, they will bleed all over the quilt!
NO cherrywoods, NO hand dyes…

***If you do not have a solid color,
just send me the white strip 1.5" by 3.5" long, with your signature,
and I can add the solid.

Thank you! The quilt is looking so great so far!!!

Big Diamond, Little Diamond! in SHOP now! May 25 2015, 0 Comments

I cut this quilt out Sunday morning, using two of my Acrylic diamond templates. My small Diamond, that makes 4 different sizes..Here I just used the Full small template, Four of them, make one of my LARGE diamond templates... So the two together, give you many fun options for PLAYING!

 SMALL DIAMOND ( CLICK)

I LOVE a star quilt! Having larger shapes in acrylic templates allows to play with my made fabric, and design within the shape!  This diamond makes 4 different sizes of stars, with corner squares and quarter triangles marked on the template, for reference.  Finished Size of the largest size Star is 21.5"

The small diamond was used to make this wall hanging...

LARGE DIAMOND: ( CLICK)

I LOVE a BIG star quilt! It's nice to have options! Having larger shapes in acrylic templates allows to play with my made fabric, and design within the shape! Corner squares and quarter triangles cutting instructions are marked on the template, for reference.  Finished Size of the largest size Star is 41"

MIX the TWO templates together to come up with your own unique designs! PLAY!

One day I will get back to finishing my liberty stars.... But for today, I'm off to finish my Memorial Day quilt!

Visit my shop for more QUILTY PLAY THINGS!!

Sizzix Mini wave die May 25 2015, 0 Comments

The Next Sizzix Die is the MINI WAVE. You may recall I also had a large wave last fall...

Well, to fill the demand and requests, I went small on the wave as well...

each wave piece is about 4 "X 4/34"

For scale... See my samples below...

;-)

Little, cute, and oh so sweet!

Shown two ways to sew together for different effects....

Instead of flip flopping the shape, Here I sewed the curves together to make columns, then sewed the strips together...  Picking out the solids was so much fun!

I made this baby quilt for a gift, using the Mini wave as "leaves" on this tiny sprout quilt...

And lastly, I cut my pieces then trimmed off the end to give them a straight edge. That way I can add the mini wave as a scallop, around my Basket quilts!  (which is made with my pies & points die, that I will to show you next!)

So many fun projects....

ALSO NEW!

I have a new large set of 50 Wt Thread with Aurifil, Called Full Circle Stitching!  Thread for piecing, and free motion quilting, in a fun variety of colors and a few basics to inspire your quilting PLAY!

I need to go photograph the colors!  Next post, promise...
