What's new! June 30 2017, 0 Comments
I've had many emails recently looking for class spots for my double wedding ring classes. Many fill very quickly, But I've just updated my list to show where I have a few spots left for classes in 2018! This list includes BRAND NEW CLASSES from my up coming NEW BOOK, MODERN QUILT MAGIC! This is going to be fun people! Don't miss your opportunity to get in on these early classes! Have you pre-ordered your autographed copy at my website??
Looking for a class? These spots are filling fast!
Currently there are 3 new Class versions of quilts from my new book.
These are PARTIAL seam quilts, Super fun and not like anything you've pieced before.
They look complicated, but are quite fun to learn, and not hard, yet another patience builder!
Once class I teach as a Herringbone technique pillow class. Both of these locations will have this class.
The book is broken down into class projects, so that you learn the skill in a small manageable size. ( takes the FEAR out of learning something new!) Once you have the skills you can then go on and build your large quilt without fear! This a appropriate for a 6 hour class.
Another class I am teaching at CRAFT NAPA
is This Herringbone Quilt, "At the Crossroads of Modern & Grand"
( These are NOT braid quilts. )
The larger version of the pillow!
and lastly, The Happy Wanderer Quilt Class 5 day Empty Spool workshop
Those of you who think this is strip pieced or log cabined or braid quilt, Look again.
This quilt builds left and right, on the diagonal to make four giant blocks that make one quilt. based on the concept of the previous herringbone quilts, but taking is a step further...
See? This why you need 5 days to PLAY with me!! Learn these amazing Parlor tricks to make Seemingly difficult quilts when actually they are not hard to do, but, teaches you something NEW!! Isn't that exciting??
MIND BENDING!!! So cool.
I'm super excited to share more images from the new book...The first time these quilts will be exhibited is at the Festival Of Quilts in the UK in August!! here's a sneak peek! So if you are at the show, Come to my booth exhibit TG6, and my lectures!
This week I am hosting my Annual VFW NYC Retreat here in my home, hosting 8 quilters from the US and Canada! Day one is spent on cutting, designing, and all things inspiration!
Many folks come with a set idea, and then we tweak it as they go... we talk about color, placement, pushing what we first "see" into a new creative space.
We look for more ideas to change up the pattern, and see where else we can stretch ourselves.
It's always very exciting to watch people make their first cuts, wary, then, I turn around again, and a million pieces show up on the design wall.
I love watching them work. It inspires me to see them make the connections.
I'm pleased to be hosting these lovely quite folk!
I'll share with you as their work changes and morphs!
Someone is plum-tuckered-out in the scrap pile!!
Socializing is exhausting, she says...
If you are interested in my VFW NYC 3 day quilt retreat, I announce the class only in my newsletter. It does fill very quickly... You can sign up for my newsletter here.
At the end of the day, my New "GARLAND" quilt, (Double Wedding Ring pattern, kit and templates) now in the store, came back from Mandy Leins who quilted it.
If you've been following my blog for a while ,you will know this fact about me...
I LOVE GREEN & RED together!
Need proof? Here's a small smattering of the 5-10 green & red quilts I make each year!
I love subtle Holiday fabrics, Fabrics that read Green & Red. So they can be red & green without being overly "Christmas-y." ...Although I do love me some Santa and reindeer fabrics too, who am I kidding? Need more proof? Click here.
But in general, I love the combo of colors. I also love vintage quilts and red, green and yellow here hugely popular back in the day, so this can work both ways... Modern vintage!
This wreath print can be used as a WHOLE cloth panel, or chop it up to make some amazing designs! Below using my Snack set template #6 from the variety pack to make this cute block! ( BTW: Snack Set Sew-a-long at Facebook! Come play along!)
This Amazing quilt "Captivated By Nature" is by Olga Gonzalez-Angulo, from Spain. I have no words to explain how much I love this quilt. It's quite amazing... Just absorb the photos... check out the detail shots, (and yes is the answer.... All hand cut dots...) Congratulations Olga on your win fo this beautiful quilt.
These are a few others that I quite enjoyed.... "Z is for Zinna, C is for Cosmos" by Kathie Kerler, Portland, OR
"The Elephant in the Quilt Room" by Elizabeth Owens, Defunak Springs, FL
I love this mini quilt so much.... "Copper Pennies" Amy Pabst, Le Roy, WV
( guessing it's about 24" X24" ?? ) Just elegant, and I love the one bottom right corner... perfect.
Mikyung Jang, from South Korea. her quilt is painted surface, and quilted and embroidered/beaded etc... So much to look at, and I love all the color! I met Mikyung last year at Houston, and that quilt was so different, it's fun tot see more work by her.
I also taught a Double Wedding Ring Class, (and gave demo's & several lectures) and I had exceptional students! If you are in my Instagram page you will see nearly all for them from class... Here's just a few... It's always inspiring to see what fabrics people bring to class, and then I have to go buy my favorites... Yes, That's who I shop, by looking at other peoples stash!
I had some fun with people taking photos at my quilt "A Garden for All Seasons." I may or not have photo bombed a few when they weren't expecting it!
This quilt was made using my Large 10" and Small 5" Hexagon templates available at my website vfwquilts.com
You may also see at my Website, that Pre-orders are available there, for my new book
which will arrive late August early Sept!
Please note, if you pre-order, you can NOT combine that book with other items on your order...Please order it on it's own.
There will be more info coming shortly, now that I am home! YAY!!
I can't wait share this book with you!!

Made as a Public Art Piece,
Inspired to make it, because my bank just redid their lobby, and I really thought they needed a great quilt hanging on the art free walls...
Meant to submit a proposal for it to hang as Public Art...
Found its home, in the new Simplicity Creative Group- EZ Quilting offices which are now in....
wait for it...
In my Bank building that inspired me to make it in the first place... so it will live where it's meant to be!
I won an Honorable Mention Ribbon on my quilt "Negative Space, Positive Attitude, Quilted by my friend Shelly Pagliai from Prairiemoonquilts.com
Here is Myself, Shelly and her sister Katy. Sharing in the JUKI love!
It has been a BUSY month!
Home pretty much to unpack and repack, I am now off to Paducah to prepare for a fun Quilt-y week! I hope to see many of you there! I have never been to the Paducah Quilt Week Show, although I have been to Paducah to the Museum in the fall which was great. So, this will be an all new experience for me to see what happens in the town for this week of quilting inspiration!
I have another first happening this week, when I Emcee the Awards Presentation...4:30pm Tuesday. Wish me luck!
I'm most excited about my exhibit of quilts that will hang in the "Bubble" Pavilion... Yes the Double Wedding Rings quilts will be hanging, BUT... So will my "Garden For All Seasons" Quilt! The 9' X 30' quilt will be hanging and that will be my FIRST time seeing it up vertical (finished) !
I have news about the quilt as well... It was made to be a "Public Art" piece to hang somewhere in NYC. It's now been finalized that it will be hanging in the New Simplicity Creative Group Office, (EZ Quilting is one of their brands) after Paducah....only a few blocks away from me in NYC. I'm thrilled!

MQX recap! April 12 2017, 13 Comments
MQX New England was a lot of fun! The Exhibit of Double Wedding Rings was so lovely to have! I took my classes to the exhibit and related all the things we talk about in class, to the quilts we were looking at... Its such a treat to have that many pieces of work available to share! If you have my Double wedding ring book, you will have seen many of these quilts! Although I did have quite a few pieces that are not in the book. So the next time you can see them is at Paducah the end of the month! Come by as I will be lecturing at the exhibit several times that week Hours will belated in the catalog... I have to look that up yet. I am also Lecturing on Play and Creativity! Don't miss it!
I taught a 15 Minutes of Play Class and a Double Wedding Ring pillow class. When I only have one day to teach DWR's, we really only get on ring made in that time frame. But that ONE ring, is all you need to know to make an entire Double wedding ring Quilt! Did you know that? All the tricks you need for success happen within the ring, and then you constantly use those same tricks through the entire quilt. The students made some really fun pieces! Here are just a few of the pieces... My Double wedding ring templates are available here!
It was nice to see some of my 15 Minutes Players at MQX! They even brought in their lovely pieces that they made! I love seeing what you've done with your 15 Minutes or your double wedding rings! Keep those emails and pictures coming!
Kim was with me, as we also vended at MQX. it was so nice to see so many of you there!
All of these items are available at my website, Vfwquilts.com
I had to tease Kim, as my bed, I thought looked better than hers.... hehe. Cheeky huh? This quilt was made using my Victory Block template set.
I will be showing you the rest of my weekend, tomorrow where we were making quilts using that template set!

The exhibit hangs in the Armory building, and my booth will be right near the exhibit!
So after you see the quilts, please stop by the booth! Kim will be working the booth as I am teaching Thursday and Friday, But I will pop over to her during lunch break. I will also give a talk with my DWR class on the exhibit near the end of the class time on Thursday, you can tag along! Probably around 4:45.. swing by and ask Kim as I will know better that day what time... I'm so looking forward to it! See you there!!!
This quilt above is a variation on my Bright Lights Big City Quilt. The pattern is in my Double Wedding Ring book. It's quite large, no there is no acrylic templates for it, but I may do a special pre-order, so stay tuned.... ( but know I make all my quilts from paper patterns, so you can certainly make it with paper too. ;-)

What did I do this weekend? I hand stitched all weekend!
First I finished up the mini quilts for our booth using the 4" Variety pack templates that are new in the store. ( below) Then I embroidered and sewed the binding on the Little 4" block above to be used at a name tag at QuiltCon. All of us at VFW Quilts made new name tags using the NEW snack set templates. Kim, Laura, and Susan and I will all be in Savannah! I can't believe in one week we will be road tripping to GA! Will you be there?
The little "Variety Pack" quilts are looking so good! These blocks are so addicting!!
Easy to piece, and super cute!
I also had been working on quilting this new DWR quilt this entire past week... I finally finished it Sunday morning! I immediately trimmed it, made the bias binding, sewed it on, took it home so I could binge watch and hand bind all day. Yep. It's done... Now to do three quite sleeves this week, Class samples as I seem to have lost them from my Craft Napa trip... (I'm sure they are hiding and will turn up as soon as I finish new samples...) Above I used my Double wedding ring set and my Full Melon template all in one quilt!
I need to get this up on the wall today and photograph it... It was a fun one to make!
